Urban warming is one of the biggest challenges faced by modern cites. In partnership with government authorities, the Cooling Singapore initiative aims to combine the knowledge of urban planning, architecture, engineering, climatology and computer science to mitigate the novice effects of the Urban Heat Island effect across Singapore

I recently was invited to take the role of principal investigator in the area of buildings and energy systems. I am looking forward to starting this collaboration.

The project is developed in Singapore under the sponsorship of the National Research Foundation (2019-2020).

Urban systems for generation of energy in cities are becoming more integrated than ever. Still we were missing a basic understanding on how to couple the future design of electrical systems with thermal systems at the district scale. In the Connecting power and district energy systems, we study the potential benefits of integrating the design of these systems to maximise efficiency and minimise costs for construction and operation.

My role inside this project is that of principal investigator.

The project is developed in Singapore and is sponsored by the National Research Foundation (2017-2019).

Reducing the carbon footprint of the building sector is key strategy to mitigate climate change. The Multi-Scale Energy Systems for Low-carbon cities project aims to identify new strategies to optimise the use of energy in buildings and districts towards and enhance the use of renewable energy in Singapore.

In this project, I take the role of coordinator and research supervisor.

The project is currently developed in Singapore under the sponsorship of the National Research Foundation (2016-2020).

Urban regeneration for carbon neutrality has been a quite important topic for the last decade. In a pan-European effort, the Spacergy project studied how to best integrate mobility, energy systems and urban planning for the development of new low-carbon neighbourhoods In Switzerland, Sweden and the Netherlands.

After helping to scope the project, My role inside this project was that of advisor on the analysis of urban energy systems.

The project was developed in Switzerland, Sweden and the Netherlands under the sponsorship of the European Union (2016 - 2019).

This award-winning project developed a prototype of sustainable construction for the tropics. Today the project is under construction in the city of Barranquilla, Colombia.

For this project, I conceptualised and guided the design of systems for renewable energy generation, rain water collection and treatment, and energy efficiency.

The project is developed in Switzerland, and Colombia, and is sponsored by the Secretariat of Economic Affairs of Switzerland (2014 - 2016).

This project studied how to drastically reduce the CO2 emissions of industrial neighborhoods in Switzerland. The project created new insights about the emissions of the sectors of transportation, energy, industry and logistics.

As part of this project I created the first scripts of the City Energy Analyst (see software).

The project was developed in Switzerland under the sponsorship of the Swiss Research Foundation (2013 - 2014).

This award-winning project studied potential ways to recover the Torre David - a 50-storey building squatted at the end of the 1990’s.

For this project, I conceptualised systems for renewable energy generation, and vertical mobility.

The project was developed in Switzerland, and Venezuela, and was sponsored by Schindler (2011 - 2012).
